It may not ordinarily be considered the most lucrative game in the world of wagering, but keno has millions and millions of steadfast admirers. And so it should! It’s a constantly entertaining lotto-esque game that’s simple to learn, abundantly available in tons of alternate styles, and one that might yield mega-dollars for players who learn its countless subtle nuances. But let’s start with the basic facts for now.

When defining keno to newbies, some wagering masters compare it to bingo. This is at least in some ways correct, in that each game is fundamentally numerical. Yet to carry that comparison too far would be to downplay the endless unique traits that make keno so compelling. Not like bingo, keno users have the ability to choose the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a total of eighty numbers, but the gambler is furnished with an additional level of personal responsibility by being able to choose as numerous (or as few) numbers as he desires. And it doesn’t take a super genius to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your desired numbers with a standard#2 pencil like you used when you were in grade 3.

Now that you have marked your numbers, take your card back to the person at the keno stand. The person will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Don’t lose this (potentially) lucrative piece of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your face and would like to help out, without a winning slip with you, you will be given precisely $.00 for your efforts.

Now there you have strategy number one: always be sure to keep your keno receipt. Let’s advance to something a little bit more advanced, shall we?

After you’ve marked your numbers, get yourself into a comfortable keno booth and observe the action happen on a monitor. This is where the winning numbers are displayed in lights. If you’ve got winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Be sure not to take too much time, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You want to get back to the keno stand to redeem your winnings, since a new drawing will almost certainly get going within five minutes.

Strategy #2: always get back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to beat that five-minute deadline each and every time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the same set of your handpicked numbers on anywhere from two to twenty slips. When the maximum amount of rounds (matching the number of tickets) is played out, you are then able to get off your numb rump and go retrieve your winnings.

Still another opportunity is known as a "stray and play" keno ticket, which usually lets you make number choices for thirty keno games or more. Hell, you can take vacation to Italy and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to get your numbers. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!

And now you are aware of several indispensable schemes for winning keno. If you are an experienced keno player, they may appear to be very obvious. But it will not hurt to brush up on the fundamentals, and if you are a new player, every little bit of direction will help make your keno playing more entertaining.
