Keno’s History

November 7th, 2024 at 22:25

Keno was first played in two hundred BC by the Chinese army leader, Cheung Leung who utilized keno as a finance resource for his declining army. The city of Cheung was waging a battle, and after some time appeared to be facing country wide shortage of food with the drastic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to create a quick response for the financial calamity and to acquire revenue for his military. He thusly designed the game we now know as keno and it was a great success.

Keno used to be well-known as the White Pigeon Game, seeing as the winning numbers were delivered by pigeons from larger locations to the tinier towns. The lotto ‘Keno’ was imported to the United States in the 19th century by Chinese immigrants who headed to the US to jobs. In those times, Keno used 120 numbers.

Today, Keno is most often enjoyed with eighty numbers in just about all of the US brick and mortar casinos as well as internet casinos. Keno is mainly played today because of the laid back nature of wagering the game and the basic reality that there are no skills needed to play Keno. Regardless of the reality that the chances of succeeding are horrible, there is always the hope that you might hit quite large with little gaming investment.

Keno is enjoyed with eighty numbers and twenty numbers are picked each round. Gamblers of Keno can select from two to ten numbers and wager on them, whatever amount they want to. The payout of Keno is dependent on the wagers made and the matching of numbers.

Keno has grown in acceptance in the US since the end of the 1800’s when the Chinese characters were replaced with more familiar, American numbers. Lotteries were not covered under the legalization of gambling in Nevada State in 1931. The casinos changed the name of the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ utilizing the idea that the numbers are horses and you are wanting your horses to place. When the Nevada government passed a law that levied a tax on off track gambling, casinos quickly adjusted the name to ‘Keno’.
