Keno was created in two hundred BC by the Chinese army commander, Cheung Leung who utilized this game as a way to finance his failing forces. The city of Cheung was at war, and after awhile of war time seemed to be facing national shortage of food with the dramatic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to come up with a fast response for the financial calamity and to create money for his army. He thusly invented the game we know today as keno and it was a wonderful success.

Keno once was known as the White Pigeon Game, seeing as the winning numbers were sent out by pigeons from larger locations to the tinier towns. The lottery ‘Keno’ was brought to the US in the 1800s by Chinese expatriates who came to the States for work. In those times, Keno used 120 numbers.

Today, Keno is generally played with just 80 numbers in most of the US brick and mortar casinos along with online casinos. Keno is mainly loved today as a result of the relaxed nature of playing the game and the simple reality that there are little skills needed to play Keno. Despite the reality that the odds of coming away with a win are horrible, there is always the possibility that you could win quite big with very little gambling investment.

Keno is enjoyed with 80 numbers and twenty numbers are selected each game. Players of Keno can choose from 2 to 10 numbers and gamble on them, as much or as little as they want to. The pay out of Keno is dependent on the bets made and the roll out of matching numbers.

Keno grew in universal appeal in the US near the close of the 1800’s when the Chinese characters were replaced with more familiar, American numbers. Lottos weren’t covered under the laws of wagering in the state of Nevada in Nineteen Thirty One. The casinos renamed the ‘Chinese lottery’ to ‘horse race keno’ employing the concept that the numbers are horses and you are looking for your horses to place. When a law passed that taxed off track betting, casinos quickly changed the name to ‘Keno’.
